Finding the right digital agency is one of the most consequential decisions a growing business can make. Get it right, and you gain a strategic partner who accelerates your growth. Get it wrong, and you're six months and tens of thousands of dollars in the hole with nothing to show for it. The good news: most bad agency choices are predictable and avoidable.
01. Ignore the Awards, Evaluate the Outputs
Agency award walls and "Featured In" logos mean very little to your bottom line. What matters is whether the work they've done for clients who look like you has produced measurable results. Ask for case studies with real numbers. If they can't provide them, that tells you everything.
02. Ask Who Will Actually Work on Your Account
The senior team presents the pitch. The junior team executes the work. This is the oldest agency bait-and-switch in the book. Before signing, ask specifically who will be assigned to your account, what their experience level is, and what their current workload looks like. A great agency will answer this question directly.
03. Red Flag: Guaranteed Results Without a Discovery Process
Any agency that promises "page one rankings in 30 days" or "50 leads per month guaranteed" before they've spent time understanding your business, your market, and your current assets is either lying or naive. Real results take a real discovery process. Promises without data are just sales tactics.
04. Understand the Exit Clause
Before signing any contract, understand exactly how you exit if it's not working. Some agencies lock you into 12-month contracts with no performance clauses. Others (like us) operate month-to-month once the initial project is complete. The exit clause tells you how confident an agency actually is in their own work.
05. The Squadtech Standard
We built our model specifically to address every one of these concerns. We show you work before you pay for it, we tell you exactly who's on your team, we set realistic goals backed by a discovery process, and we operate without long-term lock-ins. If that sounds like the kind of agency you've been looking for, let's have a conversation.
